By Gas Pathways

Gas Pathways is pleased to announce as its partner Equitable Origin (EO), a US incorporated non-profit group that created the first market-based mechanism for recognising and rewarding responsible energy producers.

EO’s EO100™ Standard for Responsible Energy Development is used to assess energy producers based on principles of corporate governance, transparency and business ethics; human rights, social impacts and community development; Indigenous Peoples’ rights; occupational health and safety and fair labour; and climate change, biodiversity and the environment. Certification against the EO100™  Standard promotes the best practises and drives improvements in ESG performance.

EO was founded in 2009 and its creation of the EO100™ Standard followed a three-year multi-stakeholder consultation process. The Standard provides an objective means of measuring and independently certifying ESG performance at the site level of energy production, promoting greater transparency, more accountability and better outcomes for local stakeholders in energy projects.

EO 100™ builds on existing international standards and multi-stakeholder initiatives, as well as industry recommendations for best practises. These include the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards, World Bank Group Environmental, Health, and Safety Guidelines, Greenhouse Gas Protocol, ISO 26000 Guidance on Social Responsibility, the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR), the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA) Guidelines, and various ILO conventions, among others. It also aligns with global reporting frameworks, such as the Taskforce on Climate-Related Disclosures (TCFD), the Sustainability Standards Accounting Board (SASB), and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards.
