Air Products to build hydrogen refuelling station in Alberta

Industrial gas giant Air Products unveiled plans April 25 for its first commercial-scale hydrogen refueling station in Alberta, adjacent to its new net-zero hydrogen energy complex under construction near Edmonton.
“This station is the next step in Air Products’ commitment to Edmonton and the province of Alberta and will serve as a model that can be replicated throughout Canada to grow the hydrogen economy, reduce emissions and assist Canada on its path to achieving net-zero by 2050,” said Eric Guter, Air Products’ global vice president, hydrogen for mobility. “Canada is well-positioned to be a leader in the clean energy future, and we are proud to build on Air Products’ investment in western Canada to help accelerate the use of hydrogen as an emissions-free transportation fuel across the nation.”
Guter announced the plans at the Canadian Hydrogen Convention in Edmonton.
The refueling station is supported in part by C$1mn in funding from the Canadian government’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program.
It will feature two hydrogen refueling lanes dedicated to heavy-duty vehicles such as commercial and municipal trucks, including Air Products’ own fleet, and two fueling positions for light-duty hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
The facility is scheduled to open in early 2025 and will be available to retail customers. It will have a capacity of up to six metric tons/day of hydrogen, which will be supplied from Air Products new C$1.6bn net-zero hydrogen energy complex, which will produce blue hydrogen with CO2 captured and sequestered.
