The share of biogas in Denmark's gas system reached 25% at the end of 2021, transmission system operator Energinet reported on January 7, up from 21% a year earlier.

Energinet noted that some 51 new biogas facilities had been hooked up to the grid since 2013. Biogas is expected to account for three quarters of Danish gas consumption by 2030 and fully satisfy the country's demand by 2034, by which point large-sized Danish gas fields such as Tyra are expected to have become depleted.

The operator noted that once injected into the grid, biogas could be used for heat and power generation as well as a fuel for vehicle transport, bringing about reductions in CO2 emissions.
