Privately-held company has CCS ambitions throughout Louisiana.

Privately-held CapturePoint LLC said February 28 it had made a final investment decision to proceed with the development of its Central Louisiana Regional Carbon Storage (CENLA) Hub, which could sequester “several hundred million” tons of CO2 in each of multiple storage locations.

The first phase of CENLA Hub development will capture CO2 emissions from natural gas processing facilities in northern and central Louisiana operated by affiliates of Energy Transfer, as well as from other industrial sources. Energy Transfer is expected to make a final investment decision later this year on the scope of its commercial and operational participation in CENLA Hub.

CapturePoint applied for its first Class VI CO2 injection and sequestration well permits from the US Environmental Protection Agency in June 2022 and expects to apply for permits at a second sequestration site in Q1 2023. Ultimately, it has plans to develop additional capture, transport and storage facilities in the industrial corridors of southern Louisiana.
