Technip Energies, Canada’s Svante sign MoU to explore markets for low-carbon opportunities.

French services company Technip Energies said November 22 it would partner with Canadian carbon sequestration specialist Svante to explore opportunities in new markets in the Middle East, Europe and elsewhere.

The duo signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop Svante’s sorbent-based carbon capture technology in the African, European, Middle Eastern and Russian markets. From blue hydrogen, which requires carbon capture and storage (CSS) technology to realise its full low-carbon potential, to ammonia and petrochemicals, the team said they saw a diverse client base for Svante’s technology.

“The carbon-capture facilities will use Svante’s solid sorbent technology to capture carbon directly from industrial post-combustion flue gases as a non-intrusive ‘end-of-the-pipe’ solution to produce pipeline-grade carbon dioxide,” they explained.

Svante added that it is expanding its manufacturing facility in Canada, establishing a goal of producing enough filter modules to pull 3mn metric tons of CO2 out of the atmosphere/year by 2023.

“This partnership clearly reflects the significant role of industrial-scale technologies to accelerate the transition towards a low-carbon society,” Technip Energies CEO Arnaud Pieton said.

The French company in July said most of the monetary value of new orders in the first half this year came from work related to the energy transition.
