Enbridge, Clean Energy Fuels to fuel Canadian vans with CNG

Clean Energy Fuels (CEF) announced on February 9 it had partnered with Enbridge unit Union Energy Solutions to fuel a 25-strong fleet of delivery vans operated by UPS Canada with compressed natural gas (CNG) as a low-carbon alternative to gasoline.
A Clean Energy-operated filling station located near a UPS facility in London, Ontario will be supplied with CNG by Union Energy. It is expected to provide 2mn litres of CNG to UPS vehicles under a multi-year agreement.
Fuelling the delivery vans with CNG will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 700 metric tons – the equivalent of planting 11,667 trees, removing 152 cars from the road, or recycling 281 mt of landfill waste.
“We are excited by the growing use of CNG in Ontario that will significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions and results in a positive environmental impact to reduce local air pollutants,” said Chad Lindholm, senior vice president of Clean Energy. “UPS has led the way in sustainable transportation for many years and we’re pleased to partner with them to expand their clean natural gas fleet in Canada.”
“CNG is a cleaner-burning solution for fleet and transit vehicles that can immediately reduce emissions by up to 20% as compared to gasoline or diesel while also reducing fuel costs,” said Cynthia Hansen, vice president of gas distribution and storage at Enbridge.
