Fugro, a geotechnical and surveying company, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Mumbai, to collaborate on the advancement of carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS) projects in India, it said on August 24.

IIT Bombay is home to one of India's National Centres of Excellence in CCUS, backed by the department of science & technology. These centres play a role in coordinating and catalysing CCUS innovations across India and are set to contribute to India's comprehensive CCUS roadmap, expected to be unveiled later in 2023, Fugro said.

Over a five-year period, Fugro will serve as a technical advisor, leveraging its expertise in geo-consulting and advanced geo-data technologies to aid IIT in identifying, evaluating, and establishing pilot projects within the CCUS domain.

According to Fugro, in India, where economic growth is rapid, the role of CCUS becomes even more critical to achieving the United Nations' Climate Action Targets.
