Rotterdam's Gate terminal on March 11 announced its initiative to gauge market demand through a non-binding call for an expression of interest in small-scale ship loading services for a new jetty, termed Jetty 4, which is set to be constructed. This move aims to address the burgeoning LNG bunkering market in Northwest Europe.

Currently, Gate terminal provides small-scale ship loading primarily for the marine bunkering market at a dedicated small-scale jetty, Jetty 3. However, given the high occupancy of Jetty 3 and the optimistic outlook for the LNG bunkering market in Northwest Europe, Gate terminal deems it necessary to establish an additional jetty to accommodate the growth in small-scale loading, it said.

“The new jetty is an important step in reducing GHG emissions towards the marine sector by facilitating services for LNG, Bio-LNG and synthetic LNG. Providing shore power to reduce NOX and GHG emissions during the stay at the jetty is in the scope of the project,” it added.

As part of the process, interested parties are required to submit their expressions of interest by April 12. Gate terminal will base its decision on advancing towards detailed engineering and filing permit requests primarily on the outcome of this market consultation.
