Infravia Capital establishes pan-European RNG platform

Infravia Capital Partners, an investment firm, on March 4 announced the establishment of Heygaz Biomethane, a pan-European renewable natural gas (RNG) platform.
Heygaz is formed through the carve-out of two biomethane production plants and a development pipeline from Molgas, an Infravia portfolio company specialising in small-scale LNG. This is followed by a merger with biomethane developer Efedos, led by Fernando Sarasola, a long-term partner of Infravia.
The newly established platform, Heygaz, envisions building and consolidating a European network of biomethane production plants, leveraging both greenfield and brownfield development opportunities in high-growth potential markets, according to Infravia.
Heygaz has recently finalised an agreement to acquire and develop Biovind in Norway, a greenfield project capable of producing up to 80 GWh of biomethane. This, combined with production assets carved out from Molgas, Renevo, and Etne, forms a biomethane production cluster on the Norwegian west coast.
Efedos brings an advanced greenfield pipeline in Spain and Portugal with approximately 25 projects across the peninsula. The pipeline is expected to yield over 1 TWh/year of annual production potential, with the first final investment decisions (FIDs) expected in 2024.
Heygaz's strategy also includes consolidating existing biogas plants across Europe, and converting them into biomethane plants. Recent acquisitions in Greece highlight this approach, with Heygaz completing the purchase of three biogas plants, representing a total of 150 GWh biomethane production potential. Greece, recognised as a key country for Heygaz's expansion, has committed government support for transitioning existing biogas networks to biomethane and developing additional new assets, Infravia said.
Currently, Heygaz is exploring brownfield opportunities in the Netherlands, Italy, and northern Europe.
