Japan's K-Line signs charter for two liquefied CO2 carriers

By Shardul SharmaJapanese shipping company K-Line has signed a charter agreement with Norwegian joint venture Northern Lights for two 7,500 m3 liquefied CO2 carriers, it said on December 19.
The ships will be delivered in 2024, the company said, and contribute to the world’s first full-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) value chain. They will be managed by K-Line's London-based unit, K-Line LNG Shipping.
The ships will transport liquefied CO2 from industrial emitters, including the Norcem Brevik and Hafslund Oslo Celsio carbon capture facilities, to the Northern Lights CO2 receiving terminal in Oygarden, Norway.
The ships are classified by DNV and will be registered in Norway and operated under the Norwegian flag by mainly Norwegian shipboard personnel, K-Line said.
