JD Logistics, the logistics arm of Chinese retail giant JD.com, on January 30 announced the adoption of hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks.

The fleet comprises 9.6-meter heavy-duty logistics trucks, each boasting an 18-tonne carrying capacity. The hydrogen fuel cell technology enables them to cover 400 km on a single 10-minute refuelling session.

JD Logistics estimates that the large-scale implementation of these hydrogen-powered trucks will result in a reduction of approximately 1,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

The company said it has diversified its vehicle fleet to include various environmentally conscious options. Alongside the hydrogen trucks, JD Logistics has expanded its utilisation of electric logistics vehicles, encompassing battery swap vehicles, electric tractors, and even methanol-powered small trucks. Moreover, the company has integrated LNG clean energy logistics vehicles in Northwest China.
