Keys Bunkering West Japan Corporation has conducted the inaugural LNG bunkering operation using the LNG bunkering vessel Keya Azalea, it said on April 12.

Keya Azalea, delivered last month, conducted its first LNG bunkering for NYK's LNG-powered car carrier, Daisy Leader, in the port of Hiroshima. This also marks the first LNG bunkering utilising the ship-to-ship method in western Japan, Keys said.

The LNG supplied for this bunkering operation originated from the Tobata LNG terminal of Kitakyushu LNG, a member of the Kyuden Group.

Named at a ceremony held last year, the Keya Azalea will be engaged in LNG coastal transportation and LNG bunkering services for oceangoing vessels visiting ports in the Kyushu-Setouchi area. This project represents Japan's first LNG bunkering initiative to supply LNG to ships across the Kyushu and Setouchi region.

Keys Bunkering West Japan Corporation is a joint venture comprising Kyushu Electric Power Co., NYK Line, Itochu Enex, and Saibu Gas.
