South Korea’s SK Gas will invest in a US-based hydrogen company C-Zero, local media reported on December 9.
C-Zero has the technology to manufacture turquoise hydrogen. SK Gas aims to acquire eco-friendly hydrogen production technology to push for the creation of an ecosystem for the hydrogen business, BusinessKorea reported. The value of the deal was not disclosed.
C-Zero’s technology is a form of methane pyrolysis that uses thermocatalysis to extract the carbon in natural gas as a dense solid. The company is developing a drop-in decarbonisation system which can be placed in between the existing natural gas infrastructure and industrial natural gas consumers seeking to lower their carbon dioxide emissions.
The California-based company says its technology can be used to decarbonise a wide array of industries including electrical generation, process heating, and the production of commodity hydrogen for fuel cell vehicles, ammonia synthesis and refining processes.
