Global classification society DNV reported via social media on February 3 that 40 more LNG-fuelled ship orders had been added to its AFI database last month. A total of 240 ships capable of running on LNG were ordered last year according to DNV’s data.

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company helped push the total count of LNG-fuelled ships to nearly 700, with A.P. Moller - Maersk continuing their investment in methanol and adding four more ships.

“Seems like the new year is off to a strong start as we've added 40 LNG-fuelled ships to our AFI database in January. Some of these orders were actually placed last year. Growth is again driven by large container ships.” Martin Christian Wold, principal consultant at DNV said.
