Malaysia's MISC to develop ammonia engines

Malaysian shipping firm MISC, through its subsidiaries AET and Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM), has signed collaboration agreements with WinGD and classification society DNV to develop ammonia engines for ammonia dual-fuelled vessels, the company said on June 20.
The collaboration agreement between ALAM and DNV focuses on research and development, as well as enhancing training syllabuses for maritime professionals. It aims to meet the workforce needs of the low and zero-carbon pathway and support the maritime industry's net-zero future, MISC said.
The collaboration with WinGD is crucial in equipping crew members with the knowledge and skills required to operate vessels safely and efficiently with new engine technology, the company added. The collaboration with DNV aims to upskill and train seafarers to adapt to the changing maritime landscape and operate new fuels and technologies.
