Japanese shipping giant Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) and Malaysia’s state-owned Petronas said February 8 they would study transportation models for liquefied CO2 to support the carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) value chain in the Asia Pacific/Oceania region.

Under the terms of a memorandum of understanding, MOL will study required specifications for tankers carrying liquefied CO2, with assistance from its affiliate Larvik Shipping of Norway, which has managed liquefied CO2 tankers for more than 30 years.

The MOL statement did not offer details on what role Petronas would take.
