A memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Israel's NewMed Energy and German energy firm Uniper on future Israeli gas deliveries to Germany also covers the potential supply of blue and green hydrogen, the companies said on November 9.

"In line with NewMed Energy's strategic plan according to which the partnership is aimed at promoting green energy, the MoU also includes potential collaboration in the field of blue hydrogen and green hydrogen and its transportation from Israel to Europe," NewMed said in a statement.

Germany is developing significant amounts of green hydrogen domestically, but its national hydrogen strategy also acknowledges that 76-96 terawatt hours of hydrogen imports would also be needed to satisfy demand by 2030.
