NTPC, Siemens plan hydrogen co-firing in gas turbines in India

Indian state-run power company NTPC and Siemens have signed a memorandum of understanding on hydrogen co-firing blended with natural gas, NTPC said on October 12 in a stock exchange filing.
The project will be carried out in Siemens V94.2 gas turbines installed at the NTPC gas power plant in the city of Faridabad. The total installed capacity of the Faridabad gas power plant is 432 MW with two V94.2 gas turbines operating in combined cycle mode.
Based on the feasibility studies, a pilot project for 5% hydrogen co-firing may be implemented, NTPC said. The hydrogen required for the project would be supplied by NTPC.
NTPC last week signed a similar pact with GE Gas Power. The project will be carried out in GE’s 9E gas turbines installed at NTPC’s Kawas combined-cycle gas power plant in the western Indian state of Gujarat.
