Japanese shipping company NYK Line has taken delivery of its 7th LNG-fuelled car carrier, Sweet Pea Leader, it said on October 27.

The vessel was built by Imabari Shipbuilding Group and will be engaged in transporting completed vehicles, including those for Toyota Motor Corporation.

NYK has said that it will introduce a total of 20 newly built LNG-fuelled car carriers by 2028 as a bridge solution in order to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 in its international shipping business.

LNG-fuelled ships are more environmentally friendly than traditional ships that use heavy fuel oil.
