NYK’s PCTC participates in 1st ship-to-ship LNG bunkering at Nagoya port

On May 16, Japanese shipping firm NYK announced that its fourth LNG-fuelled pure car and truck carrier (PCTC), named Wild Rose Leader, participated in the first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation at Nagoya port in Japan. The vessel arrived at the ports of Nagoya on May 10 and Yokkaichi on May 15 for the first time, and commemoration ceremonies were held at each port to mark the occasion.
During the bunkering operation, Wild Rose Leader received LNG fuel from Kaguya, an LNG bunkering ship operated by Central LNG Marine Fuel Japan Corporation. This joint venture is owned by NYK and other partners. The utilisation of LNG as a fuel helps to reduce emissions and improve the environmental performance of the vessel, NYK said.
In addition to the bunkering operation, Wild Rose Leader also loaded vehicles and equipment at the port of Nagoya on May 12, which were handled by Isewan Terminal Service Co. At the port of Yokkaichi on May 15, the vessel loaded vehicles manufactured by Honda Motor Co.
This development highlights NYK's commitment to adopting LNG as a cleaner fuel option for its vessels and actively participating in sustainable shipping practices.
