Hankyu Corporation and Osaka Gas on August 1 announced the signing of a contract to introduce carbon-neutral city gas at the Takarazuka Grand Theater, which is owned by Hankyu.

Since 2014, both companies have been collaborating on initiatives to reduce CO2 emissions, making use of the "J-Credit system." This system allows them to offset CO2 emissions produced during specific performance periods at the Takarazuka Grand Theater.

With the new contract in place, the theater's energy supply has been switched to carbon-neutral city gas, with the aim of further reducing the environmental impact. This marks the first time that carbon-neutral city gas provided by Osaka Gas has been implemented at a theater facility.

The concept of carbon-neutral city gas involves using carbon-neutral LNG, which compensates for greenhouse gas emissions, including CO2, generated throughout the entire process of natural gas extraction to combustion, through the use of credits.

As a result of this contract, it is anticipated that approximately 1,300 tonnes of CO2 emissions will be reduced annually, equivalent to the emissions from approximately 1,300 households.
