US midstream company Pennant Midstream said on February 10 it had signed a series of agreements with a subsidiary of Australia’s Energy Developments (EDL) to accept delivery of renewable natural gas (RNG) into its natural gas gathering system.

Pennant will transport captured landfill methane from the Carbon Limestone landfill, near Youngstown, Ohio, to EDL’s RNG facility, where it will be processed to meet Pennant’s gas quality requirements and delivered to EDL’s downstream markets. Deliveries of RNG from the landfill will reduce COemissions that would otherwise occur by up to 127,500 mt/year.

Pennant is a partnership of UGI Energy Services, a subsidiary of UGI, Harvest Midstream, and a subsidiary of Williams Companies.

“Agreements like the one announced today enable UGIES to utilise its best-in-class engineering and construction expertise to bring RNG to market while utilising the existing Pennant pipeline network,” Pennant Midstream president Anthony Cox said.

“This is an example of UGI and Pennant’s commitment to enabling renewable and sustainable energy projects using the breadth of our industry experience.”

The project is scheduled to become operational in early 2023. When fully operational, the Pennant system will take up to 6.5mn ft3/day of RNG. Under a separate agreement, UGI Energy Services will manage the construction of an interconnecting pipeline with Pennant.
