Green hydrogen partnership will form part of Oman's Vision 2040 strategy.

Petrofac has entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Oman's hydrogen centre, an offshoot of the German University of Technology, a private university based in Oman.

Officials say the hydrogen centre is the first of its kind in Oman, where renewable fuels innovation is an anchor to the government's forward-looking plans, in line with its chief strategic document: Oman Vision 2040.

Early reports of the MoU indicate the new partnership will target green hydrogen, rather than fossil-derived blue hydrogen, though the biggest concern is how to tailor renewable resources that can satisfy the most "complex" energy assets, according to Petrofac's regional director for Oman, Khalid al Jahwari.

Al Jahwari said: "Petrofac, a leading global service provider in the energy sector, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Oman Hydrogen Center to collaborate in enhancing the capabilities of the renewable energy sector in the Sultanate of Oman, particularly with regard to green hydrogen production.

"This partnership is designed to meet the needs of new complex energy assets, with a focus on engineering excellence and ever more skilled efficiencies. With our combined knowledge, experience and capabilities, we are here to support this transition."
