PTTEP launches solar energy to power S1 project

By Shardul SharmaThai state-owned PTT Exploration and Production Public Company (PTTEP) has launched a solar power project to reduce carbon emissions from the S1 oil and gas project, it announced on August 31.
The project, called Lan Sang Arun, is located in Lan Krabue district, Kamphaeng Phet province, and is the first project in Thailand to use renewable energy to support petroleum production.
The Lan Sang Arun solar power project has a capacity of 9.98 MW and is expected to generate enough electricity to power the S1 project. The project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 13,000 tonnes/year, which is equivalent to the forestation of 1,300,000 trees, PTTEP said.
The Lan Sang Arun solar power project is part of PTTEP's commitment to reduce its carbon emissions and become a low-carbon organisation. The company has set a target of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
PTTEP is also investing in other renewable energy projects, such as a green hydrogen production project in Oman.
