Australia’s Pure Hydrogen Corporation will unveil the country’s first hydrogen fuel cell prime mover, Taurus, at the Brisbane Truck Show on May 18, the company said on April 18.

Taurus is an Australian-designed, 220kW 6 x 4 prime mover with a hydrogen refuelling point and features including a low-voltage power storage system. Future designs will include prime movers that can handle B-Double loads of up to 70 metric tons, Pure Hydrogen said.

Following the Brisbane Truck Show, the prime mover will be trialled with PepsiCo shortly afterwards. As agreed between the parties, in the event PepsiCo determines that the vehicle has a commercial use case, it has the option to order additional hydrogen-powered vehicles over the period 2023-25.

Pure Hydrogen has exclusive rights to the truck design in Australia, with the potential for multi-vehicle orders following the completion of the trial period, it said. Pure Hydrogen is also developing Australia’s first hydrogen-powered garbage truck to be trailed by JJ Waste and Recycling, which is on track to be delivered by the end of this quarter.
