Saunders International announced on February 6 that it has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Optimal Renewable Gas (ORG) to collaborate on the development of biomethane facilities across Australia.

Under the terms of the MoU, Saunders International will spearhead the front-end engineering and design (FEED) studies crucial for the construction of biomethane plants, laying the foundation for ORG's plan to establish a network of ten facilities nationwide by 2030.

The inaugural facility is set to be erected in Westbury, Tasmania, with a projected investment of A$50-55mn ($32.5-35.8mn). This facility will be capable of producing 1.2 terajoules/day of renewable gas from organic waste streams.

Biomethane, a renewable gas derived from processing biogas generated through the decomposition of organic waste, stands as an environmentally friendly alternative. It is fully interchangeable with natural gas, making it compatible with existing gas network infrastructure, residential and commercial gas appliances, as well as industrial manufacturing processes.
