Seaspan Energy, a Canadian company, has unveiled its inaugural LNG bunkering vessel, the Seaspan Garibaldi, marking the first of three vessels with a capacity of 7,600 m3, it said on January 5. The initial two vessels are expected to be delivered in 2024, while the third vessel is slated for delivery in 2025.

The Seaspan Garibaldi is positioned to provide low-carbon solutions to the global market and will be stationed in the Panama region. The second vessel, targeted to support the West Coast market, will contribute to the development of LNG bunkering capabilities.

“Developing an LNG bunkering business is a natural progression for Seaspan, as the company already provides traditional fuelling services and is a highly experienced LNG vessel operator with a fleet of hybrid ferries that operate primarily on LNG,” Ian McIver, president of Seaspan Energy, said.

Measuring 112.8 m in length, 18.6 m in width, with a draft of 5 m, the Seaspan Garibaldi boasts a design speed of 13 knots. The LNG bunkering vessels are being constructed by China’s CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering. The vessel's design enables engagement in ship-to-ship LNG transfers and coastal and short-sea shipping operations.
