Singapore eyes zero-carbon power generation, bunkering solutions

Singapore has invited proposals to build, own and operate low or zero-carbon power generation and bunkering solutions in Jurong Island.
By Shardul SharmaSingapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) have invited proposals under an expression of interest (EOI) to build, own and operate low or zero-carbon power generation and bunkering solutions in Jurong Island, EMA said on December 5.
“The EOI will enable us to explore the use of low or zero-carbon fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia for power generation, alongside other low-carbon alternatives such as electricity imports and domestic renewable energy sources,” EMA said.
“Low or zero-carbon ammonia may also have multiple end-use pathways for power generation and bunkering. Beyond the power and maritime sectors, low or zero-carbon hydrogen and ammonia are also promising decarbonisation pathways for our energy, chemicals and aviation sectors,” it added.
Interested parties are invited to submit their proposals by April 30, 2023.
Singapore’s National Hydrogen Strategy was launched at the Singapore International Energy Week 2022. A key thrust of the strategy is for Singapore to experiment with the use of advanced hydrogen technologies.
Singapore believes that low-carbon hydrogen has the potential to be a major decarbonisation pathway to support our transition towards net zero by 2050.
