Sinopec plans to build a 400-km hydrogen pipeline that will connect west China to the east, state-owned media outlet Xinhua reported on April 10.

The pipeline from Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to Beijing will be the country's first trans-regional, long-distance hydrogen pipeline, said Ma Yongsheng, chairman of state-owned Sinopec.

The pipeline in the first phase will be able to handle about 100,000 metric tons/year of hydrogen and has the potential to increase the capacity by 500,000 mt/yr in the long run, Xinhua reported.

The project was included in the country's oil and gas network construction plan released by the National Energy Administration in March.
