TotalEnergies has signed a memorandum of understanding to support various projects aimed at reducing energy sector emissions in Rwanda, the company reported on January 31.

The projects cover the distribution of energy products including LPG and electric charging, the supply of LPG as a substitute for burning biomass, renewable hydroelectric generation, the development of power storage solutions for the power network, the development of nature-based carbon storage and the providing of education and training programmes on new energies and the energy transition.

TotalEnergies also said it was opening a permanent office in Kigali, the east African country's capital, and was incorporating a local branch, TotalEnergies Marketing Rwanda.

“This collaboration agreement illustrates TotalEnergies' commitment to deploying its multi-energy strategy in Africa, particularly in Rwanda, a country with a booming economy," CEO Patrick Pouyanne commented. “We are pleased to seize this opportunity to work together with Rwanda and contribute to the development of its energy sector, in line with TotalEnergies’ ambition to become a global multi energy company."
