TotalEnergies has acquired a 20% stake in Ductor, a Finnish start-up specialising in processing high-nitrogen organic waste, it said on May 24. Ductor has developed a technology that enables the treatment of organic waste, such as poultry manure, for biomethane production.

According to TotalEnergies, this technology accelerates the development of the biogas value chain and supports the transition to renewable energy sources.

The partnership with Ductor allows TotalEnergies to access new market opportunities and expand its presence in the biogas sector. The companies have also formed a joint venture to develop and invest in multiple biomethane production projects, with a focus on the US and Europe.

Ductor already has a pipeline of 15 to 20 projects, some of which are in advanced stages. The first facility will be developed in Ohio.

Under the partnership, TotalEnergies will handle the marketing of biomethane production, while Ductor will manage the production of sustainable biofertilisers.
