The biomethane will be used by Saint-Gobain to decarbonise its energy consumption in France.

TotalEnergies and Saint-Gobain France have signed a biomethane purchase agreement for a three-year period starting in 2024, TotalEnergies said on June 20.

Under the agreement, TotalEnergies will supply 100 GWh of biomethane produced at its BioBéarn biomethane plant, which is certified sustainable under the highest criteria of the European Union REDII directive.

The biomethane will be used by Saint-Gobain to decarbonise its energy consumption in France, allowing it to demonstrate the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions within the EU Emissions Trading Scheme.

The contract represents a purely commercial sale of biomethane, without subsidies, TotalEnergies said.
