Transaction will provide certified gas to industrial and institutional customers

By Dale Lunan

German gas utility Uniper said December 16 it had fronted a certified natural gas transaction with Canadian producer Vermilion Energy and Rockpoint Gas Storage Canada, which has varying interests in storage capacity in Canada, California, Texas and Oklahoma.

Earlier this year, Vermilion Energy earned EO100™ certification from Equitable Origin for a portion of its Deep Basin natural gas production. It’s the third Canadian producer to earn the certification, following Seven Generations Energy (now part of ARC Resources) and Pacific Canbriam Energy, which will supply Pacific Energy’s Woodfibre LNG project on Canada’s west coast.

Under the agreement, Uniper will offtake a portion of Vermilion’s certified production and manage supply to Rockpoint’s wholesale supplier, Access Gas Services, which provides natural gas and related services to commercial, industrial and institutional customers in Canada. The EO100™ certificates will be uploaded to Xpansiv’s DF Registry, which provides production accounting and traceability to ensure integrity and auditability of the certified gas transaction.
