Village Farms International, a Nasdaq-listed company, on April 3 announced the commencement of operations at the Delta renewable natural gas (RNG) production facility in British Columbia. This facility is a joint venture between Village Farms International and Atlanta-based Terreva Renewables.
Village Farms said that the facility underscores its commitment to sustainability through the utilisation of advanced technologies. Through its subsidiary, Village Farms Clean Energy (VFCE), the company has initiated a transition towards a more environmentally friendly business model.
The Delta RNG facility is designed to purify and convert landfill gas, specifically methane, into RNG. This process prevents methane emissions that would otherwise contribute to atmospheric pollution. The resulting RNG will be supplied under a long-term contract, with VFCE receiving a royalty on all revenue generated from the facility. Terreva is responsible for the ownership and operation of the Delta RNG facility.
Village Farms International anticipates that the Delta RNG project will contribute approximately 3% of British Columbia's targeted RNG volumes. These volumes are integral to the province's 30BY30 initiative, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030, with a long-term objective of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
