Engineering company Wood and Centrica Storage will assess the feasibility of transforming the Easington gas processing terminal in the UK into a low-carbon production hub, Wood announced on June 26.

Centrica Storage has partnered with Equinor to deliver hydrogen to the Humber region, and the Easington hub will be integrated with Centrica's Rough field redevelopment and the Easington terminal's hydrogen fuel switching project.

The development of the Easington low-carbon hub is in line with Centrica's goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2045 and supports the UK's broader net zero ambitions, the company said, adding hydrogen plays a crucial role in reaching these targets.

Wood said it will evaluate different development scenarios, including the establishment of green and blue hydrogen production facilities and their associated offsites and utilities.
