By Shardul SharmaEngineering company Wood on February 14 said it will be supporting Japan’s Inpex Corporation to advance decarbonisation projects across the globe.
In Japan, Wood will contribute concept design services for a CO2 transportation network. The pre-FEED (Front End Engineering Design) scope will concentrate on onshore and offshore pipelines creating a network to collect CO2 from emissions-intensive steel and power plants in the Tokyo Metropolitan area. These pipelines will transport the captured CO2 to storage facilities in offshore coastal zones of Tokyo, with the project set to commence in Q1 2024.
In the US, Wood will conduct a feasibility study for Inpex’s blue ammonia facility located on the Houston ship channel. The operational facility will export ammonia to Japan for e-fuel manufacturing, addressing the rising demand for sustainable fuels. Wood is also engaged in a feasibility study for Inpex‘s Abu Dhabi carbon recycle chemicals project in the Middle East, aiming to produce polypropylene from CO2 and green hydrogen (e-methanol) at a commercial scale.
Additionally, Wood is providing engineering support for an onshore carbon capture and storage (CCS) pipeline in Darwin, Australia, to mitigate emissions from Inpex’s LNG operations. Inpex’s Ichthys LNG project in Australia boasts a nameplate capacity of 8.9mn tonnes/year.
