Avenir orders two LNG bunkering vessels

Avenir LNG has finalised a shipbuilding agreement with China's Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co. (SOE) for the construction of two LNG bunker and supply vessels, it said on April 25. The vessels are scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2027.
The vessels, each boasting a capacity of 20,000 m3, will feature Type C tank designs, engineered to minimise boil-off rates and optimise cargo preservation. According to Avenir LNG, the innovative design of these vessels ensures maximum compatibility and versatility for loading and discharging both LNG and bioLNG (liquefied biogas) to a diverse array of receiving vessels and terminals.
“We look forward to welcoming these two new state-of-the-art vessels to our fleet in 2026 and 2027. With the demand for LNG and bioLNG as a bunker fuel set to grow over the next decade, these vessels will play a vital role in ensuring security of supply and decarbonising global shipping markets,” Jonathan Quinn, Managing Director, commented.
This investment programme represents the second phase of growth for Avenir LNG, signaling an expansion of its fleet by 40% and an 80% increase in total capacity.
