Melbourne-based ACCIONA, a provider of sustainable infrastructure solutions, announced on March 8 its acquisition of 100% ownership of the Kwinana waste-to-energy project in Western Australia from Macquarie Capital and Dutch Infrastructure Fund.

Scheduled for operation in the last quarter of 2024, the facility will divert up to 460,000 tonnes/year of waste from landfills and generate 38 MW of baseload power for the Western Power grid, sufficient to supply over 50,000 households.

"This investment further supports our long-term commitment to Western Australia through the development of key sustainable infrastructure solutions including the Mundaring water treatment plant, the New Bayswater Station, and the Bunbury Outer Ring Road," ACCIONA Australia CEO Bede Noonan said.

As the owner of the Kwinana waste-to-energy project, ACCIONA aims to ensure successful completion and operation, delivering critical waste management infrastructure and sustainable energy solutions to Western Australia.
