Mumbai-listed city gas company Adani Total Gas has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pune-based Shigan Quantum Technologies, an alternative fuel system solutions provider, to explore the retrofitting of internal combustion engines (ICE) to run on alternative fuels such as compressed natural gas (CNG) and LNG, Adani Total Gas announced on January 3.

Shigan specialises in manufacturing alternative fuel system solutions for automotive original equipment manufacturers and the aftermarket. The partnership between Adani Total Gas and Shigan will primarily focus on adopting natural gas for transportation and mining applications, offering sustainable solutions for fleet operators. This includes Adani Group companies in sectors like cement, ports, and logistics, aligning with a broader commitment to greener practices.

The collaboration's scope extends beyond retrofitting solutions for CNG and LNG. The partners plan to explore the potential of LNG retrofitment for various applications such as stationary engines, locomotives, and marine equipment, broadening the impact of sustainable fuel adoption.

Besides developing CNG/LNG-based retrofitment solutions, the partnership will explore developing e-mobility based solutions for last mile delivery players and use cases for green hydrogen as fuel for ICE vehicles.

Adani Total Gas, a joint venture between India's Adani Group and French TotalEnergies, possesses authorisation to operate city gas networks in 33 geographical areas across India. Additionally, in collaboration with the state-owned Indian Oil Corporation, the company operates in an additional 19 geographical areas.
