Brightmark, Chevron deliver first gas from Florida RNG project

By Shardul SharmaBrightmark RNG Holdings, a joint venture of Chevron and Brightmark Fund Holdings, has successfully delivered its first batch of renewable natural gas (RNG) from the Larson project in Okeechobee County, Florida, Chevron said on August 23.
The Larson project consists of four lagoon anaerobic digesters located at Larson Family Farms. The project captures methane emissions from cow manure through anaerobic digestion and converts it into renewable natural gas.
Methane, a greenhouse gas responsible for approximately 17.3% of global emissions, is thus transformed into a valuable energy resource. The RNG produced from this process is used as transportation fuel, contributing to lower carbon intensity in the transportation sector.
In addition to producing RNG, the Larson project also generates other environmental and economic benefits, Chevron said. The remaining solids after digestion are transformed into organic fertilizer, and recaptured water is reused on the farm. This sustainable approach enhances air quality, mitigates odors, stabilises soil, and controls nutrient levels.
"Our collaboration with Chevron and Larson demonstrates the continued growth of the RNG market propelled by the agricultural and food waste industry,” Bob Powell, CEO of Brightmark, said.
Brightmark has nearly 30 projects across 40 farms in the US.
