Enbridge earns approval for Ontario RNG project

Ontario gas distribution company Enbridge Gas said July 5 it had earned approval from the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) for its Ridge Landfill RNG Project near the community of Blenheim.
It is the first Enbridge renewable natural gas (RNG) project to go through the OEB’s regulatory process.
Pending the receipt of required provincial and local permits, Waste Connections of Canada will build the RNG facility at the Ridge landfill near Blenheim. The facility will upgrade the landfill gas to low-carbon RNG at a quality suitable for injection into the Enbridge distribution system.
While the RNG facility is being built, Enbridge Gas will build a new injection station and a 5.7 km pipeline to move the RNG to an existing Enbridge Gas compressor station, where it will be added to the distributor’s existing natural gas supply.
The project represents an investment of about C$70mn into the Chatham-Kent region and is expected to offset about 110,000 tonnes/year of greenhouse gas emissions – the equivalent of taking about 24,000 cars off Ontario’s roads.
Construction of the pipeline and related facilities is expected to begin in July 2023, while construction activities at the Ridge landfill are expected to get underway in August 2023. The project is expected to be in-service by the end of 2024.
