Gail, one of India's largest natural gas companies, has commissioned 201 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations across 17 states and unveiled India's first small-scale LNG unit at Vijaipur in Madhya Pradesh, it announced on March 5.

The inauguration ceremony was held via video conferencing in the presence of India's minister of petroleum and natural gas, Hardeep Singh Puri.

This marks a collaborative effort involving 15 city gas distribution (CGD) entities within the Gail group, establishing CNG stations in 52 geographical areas across the nation. Notable among these entities are Gail Gas, Indraprastha Gas, Gail, and Mahanagar Gas.

The total number of CNG stations in India now surpasses 6,200, with domestic piped natural gas (PNG) connections reaching approximately 12.1mn, Gail said. Gail group companies account for 40% of CNG stations and 64% of PNG connections in the country.

Gail is one of India’s largest natural gas companies with integrated operations across the value chain, including exploration and production, processing, transmission, distribution, marketing, petrochemicals, LNG trading and shipping, city gas distribution and related services.
