Gasum, in collaboration with the Norwegian Road Transport Association (NLF), has embarked on a cooperative effort to promote biogas as a key component of the green energy transition, aiming particularly to replace fossil diesel, it said on March 25.

The agreement, effective from January 1, 2024, underscores the shared commitment to position biogas prominently in the ongoing transition to green energy solutions.

Jogeir Munkeby, sales manager, traffic Norway, Gasum, underscored the suitability of biogas for heavy-duty transport, citing its competitiveness and proven technology in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. He highlighted the advantages of both compressed and liquefied biogas, noting the approximately 2,600 trucks already utilising biogas on Norwegian roads, with 600 of them running on liquefied biogas.

Gasum said it is actively enhancing the availability of biogas by expanding its gas filling station infrastructure. This effort includes the introduction of a "mobile" liquefied biogas rig at the Yggeset recycling station in Asker, operational since November of the previous year. This mobile station allows Gasum to provide biogas where it's needed, marking the initial phase of a plan to establish similar filling stations in the future.

Gasum's infrastructure expansion plan includes the introduction of new filling stations in Skui, Bærum, by summer 2024, and in Sandnes, near Stavanger, by late 2024.
