Gasum, a Nordic energy company, on June 22 announced the opening of a new green energy station in Oslo. The station provides compressed biogas (CBG) and features eight charging points for electric vehicles (EVs), thanks to a partnership with EV charging company Mer.

The expansion of biogas provision in Oslo is significant, Gasum said, as the area south of Oslo along the E6 highway previously lacked access to biogas. The new station enables users to fuel their vehicles with biogas for local distribution and benefit from toll-free driving.

Gasum and Mer were selected to establish the green energy station through a competition initiated by the municipality of Oslo and its climate agency. The station's co-location of various energy technologies reflects the new standard for infrastructure construction in Norway, maximising the use of limited space and delivering synergy benefits, Gasum said.

PostNord, a logistics company, has applied for a financial contribution from Enova, an organisation promoting sustainable energy solutions, to support the use of biogas for its delivery trucks. Gasum secured Enova's support for the filling station, which will also serve construction industry trucks and maxi-taxis.

Gasum said it has identified a rising interest in biogas among Norwegian logistics companies and aims to meet the growing demand by increasing the number of biogas filling stations.

Norway has set a target to reduce emissions by at least 55% by 2030, and the use of biogas aligns with the country's sustainability goals.
