The Hydrogen Utility (H2U) and Vopak Terminals have joined forces on H2U's H2-Hub Gladstone project, an energy complex producing green hydrogen and green ammonia, proposed to be established in Gladstone, Queensland, Vopak said on July 25.
This project will have 3 GW in planned electrolyser capacity and over 1.7mn tonnes/year of green ammonia production. The collaboration between H2U and Vopak will primarily concentrate on the export terminal aspect of H2-Hub Gladstone.
H2U has established strategic collaborations and secured green ammonia offtake agreements with partners in both domestic and export markets. Among these partners are Orica Australia, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and Korea East-West Power (Korea EWP).
For the Queensland government, the H2-Hub Gladstone project represents a significant step towards becoming a clean energy powerhouse, Vopak said. The government's support for this initiative is aligned with their vision for a sustainable future and is expected to bring about numerous local job opportunities.
H2-Hub Gladstone's recognition as a coordinated project by the Queensland coordinator-general and the issuance of the final terms of reference for an environmental impact statement further underscore the project's significance and potential for driving Queensland's clean energy ambitions, Vopak added.
