The plant will process 7,500-16,500 m3/day of biogas daily

Spanish LNG developer Ham and biomethane producer CycleØ have secured a contract to build and operate Chile's first bio-LNG plant, Ham said on October 10.

The plant will process 7,500-16,500 m3/day of biogas daily, providing the heavy transport industry with enough LNG to cut CO2 emissions by over 19,000 metric tons annually. The use of the bio-LNG will also reduce fine particle emissions by 96% and nitrogen oxide and sulphur emissions by 85% versus conventional fuels.

The biogas will be produced via anaerobic co-digestion from waste from a MaxAgro pig farm.

Ham said the project was possible due to support from Peru-based energy solutions provider Lipigas, adding that it would employ equipment developed by FNX Liquid Natural Gas that will purify the biogas, containing 50-60% methane, to achieve a purity of more than 99%.
