EverEnviro Resource Management, an Indian biogas developer, has signed compressed biogas (CBG) offtake agreements with private utility Torrent Gas, it said on November 8. The deal will be facilitated by state-owned Gail in the state of Punjab.

Under the agreement, EverEnviro will supply CBG produced from paddy straw to Torrent Gas, which will then distribute the fuel to its customers in the state. The agreement is expected to generate clean fuel for consumers and help to curtail stubble burning in Punjab, a major cause of smog over neighboring states and Delhi National Capital Region.

"These plants are not just about sustainable energy production but represent a fundamental shift towards a circular economy. They aim to reduce waste, curb air pollution, and offer a cleaner energy source to the community,” Mahesh Girdhar, CEO, EverEnviro Resource Management, said.

Each of EverEnviro's CBG plants in Punjab is expected to produce about 15 tonnes/day of CBG/bio CNG, capable of utilising over 40,000 tonnes of paddy residue annually. The production of CBG at these facilities is anticipated to reduce stubble burning in 40,000 acres of fields, thus averting emissions of fine particulate matter, and substituting fossil fuel-based emissions for end users.

In addition to supplying CBG, EverEnviro's plants will also produce over 25,000 tonnes of fermented organic manure annually. FOM is a valuable fertiliser that can help to enrich soil health and promote regenerative agriculture.
