Pune-based Blue Energy Motors has unveiled what it says is India’s first LNG-fuelled truck, according to the company's Tweet posted on September 12.

FPT Industrial, a powertrain arm of Iveco Group, in July signed an agreement with Blue Energy Motors to deploy the first LNG trucks on Indian roads. These LNG trucks will be powered by FPT 6.7-litre engines.

The 5528 4x2 model was launched by Blue Energy Motors CEO Anirudh Bhuwalka, in the presence of Gerrit Marx, CEO of Iveco Group, and Sylvain Blaise, president of Iveco Group’s powertrain business unit.

“Watch history in motion! Blue Energy Motor CEO Anirudh Bhuwalka initiated our journey towards sustainable transportation alongside Gerrit Marx, Sylvain Blaine from Iveco Group and Vincenzo De Luca, the Italian ambassador to India,” the company said in a tweet.

The engines will initially be manufactured in FPT Industrial’s Turin, Italy plant, which specialises in producing this type of medium-displacement engine.
