Japan, Brunei to work on energy transition

Japan and Brunei have agreed to explore possible opportunities for energy transition efforts, the two countries said on October 17 in a joint statement.
Both sides said that they also recognise the importance of achieving sustainable economic growth and a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and that innovation plays an indispensable role in the pathway toward carbon neutrality.
“Reducing the cost of renewable energy as well as energy storage systems, installing cutting-edge technology and introducing support systems for decarbonisation technologies such as energy storage systems such as batteries or conversion into alternative energies such as hydrogen, alternative energy such as hydrogen, combine-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) and CCS/CCUS would be key,” they said.
The countries have agreed to initiate discussions at the working level to formulate a roadmap for the energy transition in Brunei in cooperation with the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia and the Institute of Energy, Economics, Japan.
