In a move to tap into Brazil's renewable energy potential, Mitsui Gas e Energia do Brasil (Mitsui Gas), a subsidiary of Japan's Mitsui & Co., and Londrina-based Geo Biogas & Carbon (Geo) April 10 announced the formation of a new biomethane gas venture named Geomit.

Geomit will focus on utilising sugarcane waste, a readily available resource in Brazil, to produce biomethane. This renewable gas source offers an advantage over traditional options by reducing reliance on fossil fuels and contributing to efforts to combat climate change.

"The collaboration between Mitsui Gas' extensive experience in gas distribution and biogas production technology and Geo's plant operational experience, resulting from the management of four biogas plants in Brazil, ensures reliable gas generation and supply capacity year-round renewable energy," the companies said in a joint statement.

The venture plans to locate its production facilities near consumption centers, allowing for efficient distribution and partnership opportunities with both biomass producers and consumers.
